When the UK banned Thai house music, did the ban help or hurt?

The UK ban on Thai housemusic came into effect in December 2016, and many musicians are still wondering what the future holds.

In a post to his Facebook page, the pop star said the ban “sucked” on his fans.

“Thailand is a country that has an incredibly rich music scene, which I think has benefited from the UK banning all of it, but the country has also suffered because the ban has caused so much stress,” he said.

A spokesman for the UK Department for Culture, Media and Sport said the UK government is “currently assessing the impact of the ban on UK music”.

“We have been monitoring music in Thailand and we will continue to do so as we develop a range of measures to protect the UK music industry from harmful content,” he told the BBC.

The ban had been due to take effect on January 1, but many musicians including Kye Onkorn have been performing at live shows across the country.
