When Legos are not for children, they’re for everyone
A toy company’s foray into the Lego business with a range of brightly colored Lego houses that can be used to build anything from a bedroom to a bedroom wall has sparked debate.
Legos say they’re making toys for kids and adults to build their imaginations, but the companies’ latest line of Lego houses, called the Lego House, has been accused of targeting children and their families.
The company said the houses were created in response to requests from families wanting to make their own house and the Lego House, with a price tag of $30 to $40, was created to bring this idea to market.
Lego House designer Andrew Johnson said the house is meant to be used for both children and adults, and that the goal is to make it fun for both.
“The Lego House is for kids, the Lego house is for everyone, and there’s a wide range of colors and shapes for different ages,” Johnson said.
The Lego houses come in different sizes and are designed to fit the child’s hands and feet, and can be built to fit a wall or shelf.
Johnson said children can also use them as playhouses or to decorate a bedroom.
“They can be as large as a bedroom or as small as a backyard,” Johnson added.
Legoes house comes with a lot of accessories including a lamp, table, chair, and a bed.
It is also equipped with a kitchen, laundry room, and bathroom.
The company said it will offer several different models, with the most affordable being the standard $30 Lego House with a $10 discount.
Legodie, which makes Lego bricks, said the Lego Houses are a natural evolution from the company’s previous line of toys, which include the Lego Star Wars, Lego Pirates, and Lego Batman series.
The original Lego House line, which sold for $60, was discontinued in 2004, and the company announced that it had shuttered its brick factory in 2013.
Legodie is hoping to revive the Legos with the new line, but has yet to release an official timeline for when it will start producing new Legos.
The toy maker said in a statement that it has taken on an unprecedented mission to develop a range, affordable, and fun line of LEGO products for families and children.
“Lego has an incredible record of creating quality toys that families can love, and with the Lego Company now taking on this mission, we’re thrilled to be working with Lego to make these toys even more affordable, fun and accessible to the whole family,” the statement read.
